‘The Europe Day’ Study trip to Brussels, May 7^th – 14^th 2006

This study trip is organised since 2005 for the SISEC students from the second year of study. Its aim is to improve our students’ understanding of the European culture, civilisation and diversity. The event is financed by the Jean Monnet Action of the European Commission throughout the funds granted to the 'Jean Monnet' European Centre of Excellence within the West University of Timisoara, Romania.

Prof. Grigore SILASI, PhD, is the chair of the Jean Monnet Centre, West University of Timisoara, Romania.

The 2006 Study trip is organised with the occasion of the Europe’s Day celebration in Brussels: May 9^th, 2006

Accommodation: Centre Sportif de la Fôret de Soignes, Chaussée de Wavre 2057, 1160 Brussels, Belgium

Arrival:                      May 7^th, in the late afternoon

Departure:               May 14^th, in the morning

Total nights:            7 (seven nights)

Transportation:      by plane, with Wizzair, arrival and departures at the Charleroi Airport, via Budapest Airport; transport from Timisoara to Budapest airport is offered by the West University of Timisoara with special coach

–       Visit of Brussels. Discovery of the capital city of the European Union: the old downtown of the city, the European Institution, the museums, the Atomium, the NATO Headquarter, and the gourmand part of the city: Musée des Brasseurs Belges, Planète Chocolat, les gaufres (wafers) de Bruxelels, les spéculoos biscuits…

–       09:00 Participation at the ceremonies of celebration of the Europe Day – 9^th May, Brussels

May 10^th

–       17:00 Visit of the Institute d’Etudes Européennes, Pole Jean Monnet de Bruxelles, Université Libre de Bruxelles; visit of the Odysseus Network premises, ULB, Prof. Philippe De BRUYCKER

–       18:00 Attending of a course at the ULB: Asile Européenne (in French), Prof. Philippe de BRUYCKER and Prof. Jean-Louis De BROUWER

May 11^th

–       17:00 Soirée Police. Special event: meeting with Belgian policemen, members of the IPA Brabant – Brussels, at the IPA Brabant premises, Rue de Cultes 15, Brussels; entertainment, Belgian beer, new friends, the Servo Per Amikeko spirit. Host: Mr. Michel de MULDER, president of IPA Brabant

May 12^th

–        10:00 Visit at the Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of Belgium, Brussels and at the Permanent Mission of Romania to the European Union (to be confirmed)

May 11^th – 13^th

–       Cultural visits of the most beautiful cities of Belgium: Bruges (the picturesque city, recognised as the 2002 European Cultural Capital; and the sweet heart of the Universe: the Chocolate Museum and more than 44 shops featuring the best Belgian chocolate), Leuven (the famous Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, founded in 1425, the oldest university of the Low Countries; the most impressive Town Hall, the great beguinages and the Stella Artois beer) and Antwerp (the diamond centre of the world; and the city of Peter Paul Rubens, the painter)

–        Visits at the Belgian Parliament, the Brussels Town Hall and Palais de Justice (to be confirmed, events organised by Mr. Michel de MULDER, IPA Brabant)

–      Short visit to Lille, France, the 2004 Cultural Capital of Europe, the place of one of the SISEC’s European partners: Université des Sciences et de Technologies de Lille
